my close friend in whom I confided.

14  We would share personal thoughts with each other;

in God’s temple we would walk together among the crowd.

and the hills will announce justice.

4 He will defend the oppressed among the people;

he will deliver the children of the poor

and crush the oppressor.

5 People will fear you as long as the sun and moon remain in the sky,

for generation after generation.

6 He will descend like rain on the mown grass,

like showers that drench the earth.

7 During his days the godly will flourish;

peace will prevail as long as the moon remains in the sky.

8 May he rule from sea to sea,

and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

Before him the coastlands will bow down,

and his enemies will lick the dust.

10  The kings of Tarshish and the coastlands will offer gifts;

the kings of Sheba and Seba will bring tribute.

11 All kings will bow down to him;

all nations will serve him.

12 For he will rescue the needy when they cry out for help,

and the oppressed who have no defender.

13 He will take pity on the poor and needy;

the lives of the needy he will save.

14 From harm and violence he will defend them;

he will value their lives.

15 May he live! May they offer him gold from Sheba.

May they continually pray for him.

May they pronounce blessings on him all day long.

16 May there be an abundance of grain in the earth;

on the tops of the mountains may it sway.

May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon.

May its crops be as abundant as the grass of the earth.

17 May his fame endure.

May his dynasty last as long as the sun remains in the sky.

May they use his name when they formulate their blessings.

May all nations consider him to be favored by God.

18 The Lord God, the God of Israel, deserves praise.

He alone accomplishes amazing things.

19 His glorious name deserves praise forevermore.

May his majestic splendor fill the whole earth.

We agree! We agree!

New Testament Fulfilled

Matt 2:2 saying, “Where is the one who is born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Phil 2:9-11 As a result God highly exalted him

and gave him the name

that is above every name,

10 so that at the name of Jesus

every knee will bow

—in heaven and on earth and under the earth—

11 and every tongue confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord

I will open my mouth in parables,

I will announce what has been hidden from the foundation of the world.”

39. Seed of David exalted

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 89:3-4 The Lord said,

“I have made a covenant with my chosen one;

I have made a promise on oath to David, my servant:

Ps 89:19 Then you spoke through a vision to your faithful followers and said:

“I have placed a young hero over a warrior;

I have raised up a young man from the people.

Ps 89.27-29 I will appoint him to be my firstborn son,

the most exalted of the earth’s kings.

and make his throne as enduring as the skies above.

I will never deceive David.

His throne will endure like the skies.” (Selah)

40. Son of Man comes in glory

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 102:16 when the Lord rebuilds Zion,

and reveals his splendor,

New Testament Fulfilled

Luke 21:24 They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led away as captives among all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

Luke 21:27 Then they will see the Son of Man arriving in a cloud with power and great glory.

Rev 12:5-10 So the woman gave birth to a son, a male child, who is going to rule over all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was suddenly caught up to God and to his throne, 6 and she fled into the wilderness where a place had been prepared for her by God, so she could be taken care of for 1,260 days.

War in Heaven

7 Then war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. 8 But the dragon was not strong enough to prevail, so there was no longer any place left in heaven for him and his angels. 9 So that huge dragon—the ancient serpent, the one called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world—was thrown down to the earth, and his angels along with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying,

“The salvation and the power

and the kingdom of our God,

and the ruling authority of his Christ, have now come,

because the accuser of our brothers and sisters,

the one who accuses them day and night before our God,

has been thrown down.

41. “Thou remainest!”

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 102:24-27 I say, “O my God, please do not take me away in the middle of my life.

You endure through all generations.

25 In earlier times you established the earth;

the skies are your handiwork.

26 They will perish,

but you will endure.

They will wear out like a garment;

like clothes you will remove them and they will disappear.

27 But you remain;

your years do not come to an end.

New Testament Fulfilled

Heb 1:10-12 And,

“You founded the earth in the beginning, Lord,

and the heavens are the works of your hands.

11 They will perish, but you continue.

And they will all grow old like a garment,

12 and like a robe you will fold them up

and like a garment they will be changed,

but you are the same and your years will never run out.”

42. Prays for His enemies

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 109:4 They repay my love with accusations,

but I continue to pray.

New Testament Fulfilled

Luke 23:34 [But Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”] Then they threw dice to divide his clothes.

43. Another to succeed Judas

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 109:7-8 When he is judged, he will be found guilty.

Then his prayer will be regarded as sinful.

8 May his days be few.

May another take his job.

New Testament Fulfilled

Acts 1:16-20 “Brothers, the scripture had to be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit foretold through David concerning Judas—who became the guide for those who arrested Jesus— 17 for he was counted as one of us and received a share in this ministry.” 18 (Now this man Judas acquired a field with the reward of his unjust deed, and falling headfirst he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out. 19 This became known to all who lived in Jerusalem, so that in their own language they called that field Hakeldama, that is, “Field of Blood.”) 20 “For it is written in the book of Psalms, ‘Let his house become deserted, and let there be no one to live in it,’ and ‘Let another take his position of responsibility.’

44. A priest like Melchizedek

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 110:1-7 Here is the Lord’s proclamation to my lord:

“Sit down at my right hand until I make your enemies your footstool.”

2 The Lord extends your dominion from Zion.

Rule in the midst of your enemies.

3 Your people willingly follow you when you go into battle.

On the holy hills at sunrise the dew of your youth belongs to you.

4 The Lord makes this promise on oath and will not revoke it:

“You are an eternal priest after the pattern of Melchizedek.”

5 O Lord, at your right hand

he strikes down kings in the day he unleashes his anger.

6 He executes judgment against the nations.

He fills the valleys with corpses;

he shatters their heads over the vast battlefield.

7 From the stream along the road he drinks;

then he lifts up his head.

New Testament Fulfilled

Matt 22:41-45 While the Pharisees were assembled, Jesus asked them a question: 42 “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said, “The son of David.” 43 He said to them, “How then does David by the Spirit call him ‘Lord,’ saying,

44 The Lord said to my lord,

Sit at my right hand,

until I put your enemies under your feet”’?

45 If David then calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?”

Matt 26:64 Jesus said to him, “You have said it yourself. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.”

Mark 12:35-37 While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he said, “How is it that the experts in the law say that the Christ is David’s son? 36 David himself, by the Holy Spirit, said,

The Lord said to my lord,

Sit at my right hand,

until I put your enemies under your feet.”’

37 If David himself calls him ‘Lord,’ how can he be his son?” And the large crowd was listening to him with delight.

Mark 16:19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

Acts 7:56 “Look!” he said. “I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!”

Eph 1:20 This power he exercised in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms

Col 1:20 and through him to reconcile all things to himself by making peace through the blood of his cross—through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

Heb 1:13 But to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”?

Heb 2:8 You put all things under his control.”

For when he put all things under his control, he left nothing outside of his control. At present we do not yet see all things under his control,

Heb 5:6 as also in another place God says, “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

Heb 6:20 where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.

Heb 7:21 but Jesus did so with a sworn affirmation by the one who said to him, “The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind,You are a priest forever’”

Heb 8:1 Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We have such a high priest, one who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven,

Heb 10:11-13 And every priest stands day after day serving and offering the same sacrifices again and again—sacrifices that can never take away sins. 12 But when this priest had offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 where he is now waiting until his enemies are made a footstool for his feet.

Heb 12:2 keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him he endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.

45. The chief cornerstone

Old Testament Prophecy

Ps 118:22-23 The stone that the builders discarded

has become the cornerstone.

23 This is the Lord’s work.

We consider it amazing!

New Testament Fulfilled

Matt 21:42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures:

The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

Mark 12:10-11 Have you not read this scripture:

The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.

11 This is from the Lord, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?”

Luke 20:17 But Jesus looked straight at them and said, “Then what is the meaning of that which is written: ‘The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone’?

John 1:11 He came to what was his own, but his own people did not receive him.

Acts 4:11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, that has become the cornerstone.

Eph 2:20 because you have been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.

1 Pet 2:4 So as you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but chosen and precious in God’s sight,
